Measure It in Sixty Seconds

Last updated: September 12, 2026

You do not need tools beyond a tape measure. You do not need to remove the wheel. One reading across the rim is enough to order with confidence.

Most modern cars measure between 360 mm and 380 mm.

The Sixty-Second Method

Four steps. Keep the tape on the rim.

  1. Straighten the wheels. Centre the wheel.
  2. Lay the tape across the centre hub.
  3. Read outer edge to outer edge.
  4. Write the number in millimetres.

Use the larger figure if it lands between sizes. A short reading means the tape slipped off centre.

The Numbers You Will See

Compact sports cars land near 340–350 mm. Hatchbacks near 360 mm. Modern saloons between 365 and 370 mm. Large saloons and SUVs near 380 mm. Vans and trucks at 390–400 mm.

Why It Matters

Smaller rims feel quicker. Larger rims feel calmer. Neither changes the steering itself, only the input your hands make.

Ordering Tip

Keep the original diameter unless you have a reason to change it. A different size needs the right spline, hub and airbag mounting, and the cluster has to stay visible.

Most owners put the upgrade into material and thickness instead. Same size, better feel, no fitment risk.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the standard size?

Most modern cars measure 360 mm to 380 mm across the rim.

How do I measure it?

Outer edge to outer edge across the centre, in millimetres, with the wheel centred.

Can I do it without removing the wheel?

Yes. A tape measure across the face of the rim is enough.

Smaller or larger?

Smaller feels quicker and more direct; larger gives more leverage and a calmer feel.

Is a different size safe?

Only where spline, hub and airbag mounting match and the cluster stays visible.

What if I get it wrong?

Send the measurement, the chassis number and photographs — we confirm the size before production.
